I’m happy and excited to say that I will have two exhibitions next summer. The first will be at Galleria Uusi Kipinä in Lahti (25.5.-12.6.2022) and the second in Asbestos Art Space at Helsinki (21.-31.7-2022). Can’t wait to share some more details later this Spring!
ART RESIDENCY AND NEW ARTWORKS
Here’s a work in progress photo of a painting that started my new artistic production called “They come in peace”
During December 2021 I spent two weeks at AARK residency in Korpo, Finland.
It was wonderful to be there in the calm surroundings and focus on being present. I was able to finally start my new artistic production called “They come in peace”. I even had a small breakthrough with my style and new painting technique. If you want to read more about my stay there check out AARK’s website and their ‘work in progress’ blog.

STUDIO NEWS!
I’m so excited that I finally have my own studio space in Helsinki. So soon if you want to buy some art you can come there directly, I’ll share more info later :) In the meanwhile I’ll try to post all the artworks that are for sale to my Instagram account @matildapalmu There are already some in the highlights.

EXHIBITION CANCELLATIONS, NEW PLANS

Unfortunately all the exhibitions for this Autumn were cancelled due to the pandemic. However, I’m already planning new exhibitions. The first exhibition, Otuksia ja muita ihmetyksiä - Creatures and other wonders, is a continuum for my previous solo exhibitions and it explores the same themes: identity, gender and sexuality.
I’m also starting a completely new artistic production called They come in peace and I will have an exhibition of that next Spring. Stay tuned for more info later this Autumn :D
Summer news
I got good news a while ago: I got selected to Galleria Uusi Kipinä’s next years’ exhibition programme :D Feels good to go back to Lahti where I spend such good times when I was studying there for 4 years <3
I have also one exhibition next Autumn in Helsinki, I’ll keep you updated where and when :D But for now, I will enjoy a small summer vacation and then I’ll start working on my summer project “Let all the flowers bloom” !
STREET ART
I’m so happy that I was selected to be one of the artists for Arabia Street Festival in Helsinki. I painted this flower creature in Damaskuksentie at Arabia, Helsinki. Here you can see the process and the final artwork.
The name of the artwork is “Puutarhan henki” (The spirit of the garden). And I’m super happy that the friendliest hardware store RTV at Kalevankatu, Helsinki sponsored me with paints and paint supplies. The customer service there was amazing :)

LET ALL THE FLOWERS BLOOM
I’m so happy and grateful that I got Grafia’s grant for this summer for my project called “Let all the flowers bloom”. This project is a surface pattern collection that is all about flowers and challenging gender stereotypes. I continue exploring the same themes in this collection than in my artworks; identity, gender and sexuality from the queer perspective. I’m going to collaborate and consult Retromies, the founder of Farkkukauppa by Retromies, about men’s wear. I’ll keep you updated how the project goes :D
